Information about technology

What is Technology?

The science of putting inventions and discoveries into practical use is known as technology.A scientist discovers scientific principles, properties, and processes, and structures.
Technology began in prehistoric times, but did not have a major impact until the 18th and 19th centuries. Then a host of new technologies sprang up, spawning a revolution in industry and at home.Today, it is information technology that is bringing about another major revolution.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of technology?

The advantages of technology are as follows:-

  • Access to information, educational convenience, social networking and to improved communication.
  • In businesses technology allows the companies, factories and industries to increase their profitability.
  • Technology devices improves efficiency and accuracy in medical operations or surgeries. It mitigate  pain that the patient feels  and also reduces the recovery time of the patient.
  • Technology allows educators more ways to instruct students.
  • It helps to reduces the cost that the farmers pay usually in a developing country.
  • Because of technology agricultural processes day after day are becoming more faster and easier.
  • Convenience of traveling.
  • Encourages the creativity of an individual.
  • Helps in faster, easier and safer development of a developing country.

The disadvantages of technology are as follows:-

  • Increasing loneliness of an individual.
  • Decreasing the probability  of an individual to  have a job in any sector because of latest machines and robots that can do the work at a low rate of time and money.
  • Addiction of many people to technology such as playing games on computers and mobiles for too many hours and not being able to live without television, computers and mobiles.
  • Doing illegal things such as by performing plagiarism.
  • Losing data of your network through cyber crimes such as hacking, using of malware like viruses, worms and Trojan horses etc.

History of technology

Uses of tools:-

Prehistoric people pioneered technology when they made the first tools. They smashed pebbles to produce sharp cutting pieces, then later shaped flints into specialist tools such as hand axes, knife blades, and weapons.Tools continued to be made from stone until about 5000 BC, when copper was smelted and used in the Middle East.In about 3500 BC, metal technology spread with discovery of bronze. The Bronze Age was then followed by an Iron Age from about 1500 BC.

Fire:-

Fire is the heat and light produced when fuel burns this process is known as combustion. The discovery of Fire was like a turning point in the technological evolution of humankind. In earlier times our ancestors were able to produce fire with the help of charcoal. They burned charcoal instead of wood to produce fire. After a due of time our ancestors started producing fire with the help of flint tools.

Modern technology

The foundations of modern technology were laid in the 1700s, at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.Inventions transformed traditional craft-based industries into factory-based ones.Key inventions, such as the spinning jenny (1764) and Watt's steam engine (1775), provided the materials, machines, and power necessary for technology to develop.

Forms of technology

Materials technology:-

A range of materials is used for manufacturing goods, machines, and structures.Plastics, for example, are popular because they are cheap and easy to shape. They are used in solid forms, as synthetic fibers for textiles, film for packaging, and in composites such as fiberglass.Metals such as iron and aluminium are strong and continue to be important for building machines and structures.Concrete, usually reinforced, or strengthened, is the prime material for building massive structures such as dams, bridges, and skycrapers.

Information technology:-
Information technology, or IT, encompasses the revolution in communications and the exchange of information brought about by the widespread use of computers. On aspect of IT is the creation of the internet, a global network that provides access to "sites" containing a range of information, and allows communications between network "surfers" (users).

Laptop computers allows users to work anywhere.

 Food technology:-

One of the most important aspects of food technology is preservation. Methods such as salting meat have been practiced for thousands of years to stop food spoiling, while canning and refrigeration are most recent.Modern methods include freeze drying, which helps preserve food structure better, and the use of additives.Food technology also includes the manufacture of synthetic substitutes such as TVP (textured vegetable protein).Freeze-dried food is light, but still retains nutrients. This type of food is used by astronauts in space.
